Using Find a PCP
Does it cost anything to use Find a PCP?
No. Searching, comparing, and matching are free for patients.
Can I book an appointment through Find a PCP?
No. Find a PCP is a directory. Each profile lists the practice's phone number, website, and address so you can contact them directly to confirm availability and schedule.
How is the match order decided?
Suggestions are ranked on fit: whether the physician is accepting new patients, care model, insurance, and the conditions and access features you mention. Practices can't pay to rank higher.
Care models and cost
What is direct primary care?
Direct primary care practices charge a flat monthly membership instead of billing insurance. Most include unlimited visits and direct messaging with your doctor.
Do I still need insurance with a membership practice?
Yes. Keep insurance for specialists, imaging, hospital care, and emergencies. Membership covers primary care only.
Can I use an HSA to pay for membership?
Rules for HSAs and membership fees vary. Check with your HSA administrator or a tax professional.
Switching doctors
How do I move my medical records?
Your new practice will typically send a records request to your previous doctor once you sign a release form at your first visit.
Will my prescriptions transfer?
Bring a current medication list to your first visit. Your new physician will review and renew prescriptions as appropriate.
Not sure where to start?
